A Charts Report in Quixy allows you to display multiple chart types within a single consolidated view, enabling comprehensive data visualization and comparative analysis. Unlike a Chart Report, which supports only one chart type per report, a Charts Report combines different chart formats — for example, Bar + Line + Pie — in one unified dashboard.
By presenting varied perspectives of the same or related datasets side by side, Charts Reports enhance decision-making and uncover insights that may be missed when visualizing data in isolation.
A Charts Report functions as a multi-visual container for charts built from the same data source (or multiple sources, depending on access rights). Each chart in the report can be configured independently with its own:
- Chart Type (e.g., Line, Area, Pie, Histogram)
- Data Fields (X-axis, Y-axis, Group By)
- Operations (Count, Percentage, Sum, Average, etc.)
- Sorting and Formatting
- When the Charts Report loads, it renders all configured charts on a single page, allowing you to:
- Compare multiple visualizations simultaneously — e.g., a bar chart showing sales volume alongside a pie chart showing sales distribution.
- Spot complementary patterns — different chart types emphasize different data characteristics.
- Enable contextual storytelling — charts can be arranged logically to walk viewers through a narrative from overview to specifics.
A Charts Report is particularly useful when:
- Multi-metric dashboards are required (e.g., KPIs + breakdowns).
- You want to mix visual formats to highlight trends, proportions, and comparisons in parallel.
- You need different lenses on the same dataset to validate insights.
- Stakeholders prefer a single access point for all relevant visuals rather than switching between separate reports.
- Go to Admin Menu → Reports → Create Report.
- From the Report Type drop-down, select Charts (not Chart).
- Chart Report = one chart type only.
- Charts Report = multiple chart types combined.
- Select the relevant app data table or external data source.
- Ensure you have the necessary permissions to access it (see Data Access considerations).
- Enter a descriptive name that reflects the purpose (e.g., “Quarterly Sales Dashboard”).
- For each chart you want to include:
- Chart Type: Select the type (Bar, Line, Pie, Area, etc.).
- Type: Choose the sub-type if available.
- X-Axis & Y-Axis: Map the appropriate data fields.
- Operation: Choose Count, Sum, Average, etc.
- Group By: Define segmentation for drilling down data.
- Repeat for as many charts as needed.
- Use the interface to arrange charts in a logical, reader-friendly layout.
- Click Save to finalize your Charts Report.
It will now be available in the Reports list for viewing and sharing.
The data access rules for Charts Reports work the same as for Chart Reports:
- Permission-Based Visibility: Only users/roles with rights to the underlying data can view charts.
- Linked to Data Source: Access permissions on the source table dictate chart visibility.
- Inherited Access: Read-only data access results in read-only charts; edit/export options require elevated permissions.
- Security Compliance: Ensures data governance rules are respected across all visuals in the report.
Report Mapping in a Charts Report works exactly like in a Chart Report. You can map click interactions from a chart element to another report for drill-downs or detailed analysis.
Example: In a multi-chart dashboard showing Sales by Region (Bar Chart) and Sales Trends (Line Chart), clicking the “East” bar could open a “Detailed Sales Orders” report filtered to the East region.
Important Note
Charts Reports support Advanced Settings for each individual chart inside the report — enabling customization of appearance, behavior, and interactivity.
To learn about these options in detail — including markers, legends, zoom, sorting, axis customization, data labels, printing, exporting, and more — refer to the Chart Reports main article.
