A Gantt Chart shows tasks on a timeline using start and end dates. Each task appears as a bar that represents its duration and order. This view helps you track task sequence, overlaps, and progress in one place.
Example
In a construction project, tasks such as site preparation, foundation work, building construction, and interior finishing are stored in a data source. Each task has a start date, end date, dependency, and completion status. When the Gantt Chart is created, these tasks appear as bars on the timeline in sequence, showing how work progresses from one stage to the next.
¶ 1. Uses of Gantt Chart
The Gantt Chart is used to:
- Plan project timelines using start and end dates.
- Track task progress across the project lifecycle.
- View task sequence and dependencies.
- Identify delays and overlapping tasks.
- Monitor workload distribution.
- Review task priorities.
- Ensure tasks start and finish as scheduled.
¶ 2. How to create a Gantt Chart?
- Go to the Data Source list page.
- Select the required data source.
- Click Create Report. The report configuration page opens.
- From the Select Report Type drop-down, select Gantt Chart.
- Enter the Report Name and Display Name.
- Click Next. The Gantt Chart configuration page opens. On the configuration page, map the following fields:
- Select Display Field: Map the field that contains task names.
- Start Date and End Date: Map the fields that define task duration.
- Select Dependency: Map the field that defines task sequence.
- Select Progress: Map the field that stores task completion status.
- Select Priority: Map the field that defines task importance.
- Click Save to generate the Gantt Chart.
